Palmerston School Committee.
♦■ ' ■ A meeting of the above was held last evening. Present : Messrs Leary,(chairman), Hawkins, Stewart, George, and Wright, (secretary) . Minutes of last meeting read and confirmed. . The chairman read the correspondence. A letter was received from the Board ! stating that the school has teaching staff for 250 against an average attendance I of 221. The chairman stated he had written to the Board informing them that although the average attendance was only 221, yet the number was daily incaeasing ; and that an assistant teacher for the central school m place of Miss Mackin resigned, was absolutely necessary, and recommending Miss Scofield as most suitable. Also that he had forwarded the voting papers duly signed m favor of • Mr Baker to fill vacancy m Board through Sir W. Foxs resignation. In reply to letter asking that any application received for vacancies be forwarded to tne committee, the secretary Had enclosodjtwo : — viz., one from Mary A. Me William (Winton), the other ! from Mary H. Crawford (Oamarn). i A letter was received from Mr Matheson stating he had entered on his duties. Moved by Mr Hawkins seconded by Mr Stewart and carried, that Miss Pattersons' appointment be approved. Ketiolvcd that 100 post-cards be procured and printed. A number of small accounts amounting to £3 9s Id were passed for payment subject to correction. The meeting then adjourned.
