Bolt in the Square.

A bolt occured this afternoon, which caused some excitement in the Square. A tandem team, drawing a spring cart laden with stores belonging to the Terrace End Store, bolted when near Terrace End, and came down Church Street at full gallop, and went round the Square. Finally each horse went on opposite sides of the Borough Lamp at the corner near the Foresters' Hall, which came down with a crash. The cart capsized, the leading horse getting free, and the shafter remaining until rescued. It appears that the driver jumped off when the horses started to bolt, so that the animals were left to their own guidance. The parcels, goods, &c., were a good deal damaged, but the horses escaped serious injury. Replacing the lamp post will be the heaviest item of expenditure. Fortunately the absence of the lamp will not be felt as the moon is now approaching full. The accident might easily have been attended with much more serious consequence.
