CONSCIENTIOUS TESTIMONY.

Mit Higgin paid the following graceful tribute to Mr Mac Arthur, when bringing forward the resolution at the Fielding meeting.: — Gentlemen : " I wish to move that this meeting pledges itself to support Mr Macakthur at the coming election and to do all m its power to secure his return to the House of Representatives. You knew that I used to be opposed to Mr Macarthuh, so I consider it my duty to inform you that I now favor his candidature. I do not say he has all the qualifications which are required for a political candidate, but he has energy and determination and is successful m everything he undertakes. I think we should have a representative who would be beneficial to our own interests, and if we consider what is beneficial to ourselves and to the colony at large we shall do rightly by returning Mr Macakthuk. You have heard to-night that he can expound his views m a clear and decisive manner. The. names of Yogel and Atkinson have been mentioned to-night, and they are both able men ; but if you want good Government you must put good men into the House to support them. This is a large and great country, and only wants the proper people to manage it and form a good Government, to be able to take our place with any country m the Empire. I ask. you to meet with me this evening to do all we can to return Mr Macartiiur. We don't want talkers and schemers, but workers; and lam pleased to be able to recommend him to your suffrages. 1 ' (Applause.).
