Manawatu Road Board.
YESTERDAY'S MEETING.
Present "Wardens Snelson fChairman) Akers, Pratt, Sly, and Pair. Apology read from "Warden Edwards for his unavoidable absence from the meeting. It was intimated that L2OO had cV. c V' em i tted as first instalment of L6OO of Tiritea Road grant. Official announcementof suspension of County received. Resolved that P. Kavanagh's claim of L 5 m connection with contract m Fitzherhert, be paid but consideration of a^urther claaiin of L 33 bepostponed until the plans and specifications had been examined by the Board. Resolved that the engineer and Mr Pratt furnish a report on Sheerin's contract. Resolved that "Warden Sly be authorized to have the necessary repairs done on Randolph's Line. Letter received from Commissioner j of Crown Lands stating that the 1 Board's proposal to Bj>end certain * moneys m connection with the Tiritea Eoad within certain blocks had been approved of. Resolved that all documents re* lating to Taonui and Fitaherberfc Ridings be handed over to th© Board. Captain Walker's application to erect fence on road-line gcanted. Another application from the same gentleman to erect a gate oa the Fitzherhert road was refused. Resolved that Warden Sly be authorized to have a bridge erected asked for by Mr Hamilton. Letter read from Mr Rym&n complaining of overflow of water on his land ; and from Mr Andrewartha r%questing payment of his account. The Board then went into committee to discuss its financial position. Proposed by Warden Pair, seconded by Warden Akers, and carried— That a rate m lieu of the County Council rate be struck for the current year Proposed by Mr Sly, seconded'hy Mr Pratt, and carried— That all owners of land specially rated under the Roads and Bridges Construction Aot be remitted such special rate as may be struck m lieu of the County rate upka. such owners of property
"petitioning the Board m that direction. Proposed by Mr Snelnon, seconded by Mr Piatt, and carried — That the Secretary's salary be increased to «■ LIOO per annum from July 2nd to 31st Maich, 1885, office hours to be from 10 till 3, Satan dajrs 10 to 1. .Resolved — That a petition be forwarded to. the member, re altering Bating Act. Regarding petition from Messrs Millson and others, re fresh assewMent of property, the matter was deferred till next meeting, owing to the abseuce of Warden Edwards. A petition from same, re special rate. Clerk was instructed to refer petitioners to the resolution passed referring to. the same.
