FROZEN MEAT.
Our readers will learn with regret that a portion of the cargo of frozen mutton ex steamship Florida from Wellington landed m fair condition, has only realised four pence per pound. The remainder of the cargo, however, has arrived m bad condition and been . condemned. This is really most unfortunate. J.ust as New Zealand mutton, and Weilington mutton m particular* was getting up its name m the London market, this lamentable contretemps occurs. It was generally expected that the Florida's cargo, having received especially carefulpreparation, would arrive m prime order, and would command top prices. The damaged shipment will again throw the trade back, just at a time too, when the outlook was encouraging, and when it was specially desirable that nothing should happen to do it damage. It would appear that the result is not attributable to carelessness m preparation, or the working of the machinery, which is a subject for congratulation. We can only hope that subsequent sucessful shipments will tend to remove the prejudice which the Home butchers and graziers will be so delighted to magnify.
