THE FLORIDA'S CARGO. A BAD SHIPMENT. (united press association.) Wellington, This Day. A private cablegram from London this morning states that about 2000 carcases jby the steamer Florida, from Wellington, arrived m bad con d:tion. The damage was not caused by the defective woiking of the machinery, but it is attributed to water which by some means found its way into the hold.

We regret to learn that Mr Macro has Bent m his resignation as secretary and member of the Voluntt ers. We believe shares are being rapidly taken np m the Soap Company. We again remind our readers of the inaugural meeting of St. Peter's Young Men's Club and Institute to take place this evening at their rooms m Mainstreet. Beavon's great annual clearing sale will commence to-morrow, and will continue until further notice. The announcement will appear m to-morrow's issue. The FeiMing Star alludes seriously to Mr Amos Burr's candidature, and discusses his political address as that of a genuine candidate. The manager of Mr Manson's estate advertises, for a valuable Shropshire Down sheep lost on Tuesday evening. The animal is a very valuable one, and it is to be hoped will be recovered. C. M. Ross audCo.,of the BonMarche, announce the arrival of their second shipment of Winter drapery ;all of which is now opened out, embracing a most extensive selection, of which thoy invite inspection. So stringently are the provisions of the Sheep Act now enforced that some lately imported from Australia by Mr JohuManson had to be dipped m Sydney, again Wellington, and again m Palmerston, or ns Mr Smith the manager remarks, " Enough to kill them." It appears almost time some of the more oppressive of the clauses of the present Sheep Act were modified to some extent. A baker m Auckland has been killed by being run over by his cart. The Frisco mail steamer is due at Auckland on the 28th inst. The steamer Albion overdue at Wellington from Sydney is supposed to have broken down. Dr Newman moved the address m reply, which was seconded by Mr M. W. Freon. Mr Ste%vard moved the insertion of the no confidence clanse, the latter motion being seconded by Mr Levestam. Mr Macandrew moved the adjournment of the debate till to-day. Messrs Wollerman and Hutcheson have a special announcement m the wanted column offering special bargains m the way of a cannister of tea, with cannister given m as a present to the purchaser. Attention is directed to the new announcements from the Bon Marche. Mr Akers, of the Club, had a narrow escape from a serious accident to-day through his horse taking fright at the train and finally falling on the railway crossing near the school-house. He escaped with a slight shaking, though the horse received some injury.
