BUTCHERS* PRICES.
(TJ> THE EDITOR OP THH STANDARD.) S IR> — How is it that when stock are almost un aleable the retail price of meat remains the same as when C:«ttle were three times the present piicj? What fortunes the butchers should now be making ! We are told, if we protest, that the prices are high on account of bad debts. Then, why do butchers make bad de-ts? Or why ask those those who do pay their ac counts to pay also for those who i\o not ? Why do not the butchet s make a cash price and a hooking price, and the public will soon take advantage of the former. I think it is nothing short of extortion lo make people pay so dear for meat when stock are almost unsaleable at uny price. Let one of our butchers aof on my suggestion, lower the price for cash, and see if it does not succeed. — L am, etc. House ho der.
