An Opera by Telephone.

The Eißson-Gower-Bell Telephone Company m Libson had the honour the other day of tran emitting the new opera " Lauriana " by telephone to the Adjuda Palace of the King of Portugal. As this was the lirst performance m Portugal of this opera, which is composed by a Portugese, the King and Court were much distressed at being unable to attend, owing to the recent decease of the late Princess of Saxony. The difficult y was, however, successfully overcome by telephone. So perfect was the audition by this mean*, although ten miles of wire were traveled by the current, that, his Ma"esty was able to hear and distinguish the words of the singers. The whole of the Royal family and a distinguished company were present at the Palace, ten telephone receivers baing put up for their accommodation.
