An Editor's Battle.
A rather lively scene (says the Age) was witnessed, and caused some amusement the other day to onlookers- m the office of a weekly religious paper published m Melbourne. The reverend editor, whilst calmly seated m his chair, was started by the abrupt entrance of a venerable and well-known bush missionary, who with irate countenance fiercely demauded to know the authorship of a certain paragraph which he contended cast reflections upon himself. Explanations followed, but the itinerant preach* er refused to accept them, and becoming bellicose m tone and manner he suddenly hit out, and fulfilled a previous threat of " punching the head " of his clerical opponent, whom lie seized by the collar with one hand whilst he delivered repeated blows with the other. A violent struggle ensued, during which the reverend editor of the offending journal called loudly for assistance. Help was fortunately at hand, and the belligerents were separated, but not before the travelling preacher had severely beaten his peaceful brother, who was unable to cope successfully with him. This extraordinary, assault will, it is said, be f urthsr inquired into shortly by justices of the peaco lawfully assembled for the purpose.
