Two announcements from the Racing Club will be found in our advertising columns. Hanlan, the oarsman, on his arrival at Sydney, was accorded a good reception. The Volunteer ball given in the drill shed on the 24th we are pleased to hear was a thorough financial success. The usual monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was being held to-day. While running in the Wanganui Handicap Steeplechase yesterday the horse Mount fell and dislocated his shoulder. He was afterwards shot. An accident of a very serious nature happened to the well-known jockey Cahill, while riding Lyric in the Wauganui Back Steeplechase yesterday. The horse was seen to fall, and Cahill was badly hurt. Last evening Drs. Tripe and Connolly held a consultation on Mr Cahill, and found him still unconscious, but a little easier. Captain Aume, Inspector of Prisons, is on a visit to Pahnerston. He is a brother in law of Dr Macintire. Use Hop Bitters once and you will use no other medicine. Test it. Be sure and t read.
