Messrs Palmerston. and Scott despatched six pack-horses this moming, with provisions and tools for the party now out laying off the road to connect Linton and Shannon, two of .. the towns on the route of the West Coast Railway, We hear that an very 1 ewy gradient has been discovered, over a low saddle, that will connect direct with Masterton by a accessible route. This is a great thiug for the future of Palraerston as the key of the North Island districts, aud will greatly enhance the value of its geographical position.
