The steamer City of Sydney with the April English mails left 'Frisco for Auckland on the 11th instant, one day late. Next Saturday, the 24th May, will be observed at the Palmerston Post-office as a close holiday. There was an excellent attendance at Meßsrs Stevens and Gorton's stock sale at Bulls on Tuesday. A large number of sheep were yarded, and si few pens of cattle. In the majority of the lots put up the prices offered were below the reserves, and they were consequently passed m. Messrs Stevens and Gorton held a very successful auction sale of stock and implements at Sandon, on Monday last, on the property of Mr A. Wright. Captain Skorman has received a telegram from Major Stapp, informing him that the nsual ceremonial parade on the Queen's Birthday m postponed to June 28th. The valuable property m Broad-Street, belonging to Peeti To Awe Awe, has been placed m Mr Snelson's hands for sale.
" Holiness tickets," issued to converts only, were distributed at the Salvation Army meeting last night. Some adult larrikins wished to receive cards and applied to the officer m charge, but were graciously refused. The date of Mr Cottle's next visit to Pahnerston will be Wednesday, June Mr Snelson's different sales of fruittrees for the season are elsewhere aunounced. Pastor Gaustad will deliver a lecture jn reply to Mr Walton's address on Spiritualism, date and place of which are elsewhere advertised. To-day was the festival known as Ascension Day, and special services were held both m the Anglican and Roman Catholic plaoes of: worship. On Tuesday Messrs Stevens and Gorton sold the farm of Mr A. Wright, of Sandpn. containing 13G£ acres, to Mr A. Matthews, of Sandon, for the sum of £1,150.
