A Horse Drowned.
We regret to hear of a serious loss sustained by Mr Partridge, whose valuable draught horse Boxer was drowned yesterday when folding the Manawatu River, at the ford known as Waldegrave's. Mr Partridge was going for a load, and there was more water in the river than he thought. The wheel caught in a snag, and the dray partially overturned, throwing Mr Partridge into the river. The dray again righted, but again caught in the same snag, the result being that the poor animal could not be rescued. A set of leading harness was also washed into the river and not recovered. The loss will be a severe one to the owner, as the horse will be difficult to replace, being a particularly staunch and tractable animal worth at least £40.
