A Homicidal Lunatic.

EXTRAORDINARY SCENE IN A PRIVATE LUNATIC ASYLUM. FURTHER PARTICULARS. (united prhss association.) Du.vediv, May 21. The particulars of the throat-cut-ting case which occurred at Mr Hume's private asylum, Waikari, show that the maniac. Who did the deed was a very dangerous patient. He came from Canterbury, and Mr Hume has written to his friends to say that he must be removed, as, he does riot wish to have inmates who are dangerous. The man. is a religious maniac. He had the razor m a; hat-box with a false \ ottom,,and no less than soven other razors have been found m his trunks. The wouldbe liomicide slipped downstairs from his own room to the other patient's dormitory, and some persons at dinner noticing the door open, went to see what was the matter. When they got into the room, the maniac was kneeling at the side of the bod of his victim. He had a i*azjr m his hand, but he Had simply given the man's throat a slight scratch. Th« assailant had his head covered, as if he was praying. The man attacked was weak, and had been m bed a length of time. The matter was at once reported to the Inspector of Asylums m Punedin, Mr J. B. Bradshaw. It occurred last Saturday fortnight.
