Some amusement was caused at the Borough Council meeting last night by an interjection from Cr McNeil, during the discussion on the purchase of a firebell, Cr Walker was m a declamatory mood, and was giving his opinion on the relative size and quality of different bells m Pahnersfcon, when Cr McNeil quietly remarked that perhaps there was Boaae truth m the old proverb that "empty vessels make most sound." This remark struck the assembled Councillors as being so apropos to the occasion that the risible faculties of the City Fathers were spontaneously excited, and they laughed long and loud.
