The Wellington correspondent of the Auckland Evening Star telegraphs to that paper :— " Specific charges have been made against several high officers m the Public Works Department, and a Commissioner of Crown Lands of using their positions to buy laud against the public. In the cases of tho Public Works officials, it is alleged that they have purchased land m the vicinity of prospective railway stations before the sites were made'r public." J lt is to be hoped such charges will be sheeted home to the offenders, and the delinquents severelj' dealt with. „ ..
