NOVEL PROCEDURE.
We learn, from a reliable source that a rather strange procedure prevails at the sitting of the Native Land Court now m. session at Wanganui. Wo are informed by a person on,, whose word we can tuist that the rule m vogue is that each and every witness shall,pi'ior to giving evidence, pay to the Coun a fee of one pound sterling. Within our knowledge this demand i& without precedent. Nor can we surmise its object, or on what acccuni the demand is made. The effect will be that the contesting party with the longest purse will have the Wst chance of success, as he will be" able to pay for the greatest number of witnesses to give evidence on his behalf; so that the ends of justice may not always be served. We should like to hear a little more about this innovation, its object and intention, and to what fund the fees levied on each witness arc devoted.
