Ac the inquest on the boy Murray, the jury returned a verdict of accidental death, with a suggestion that the only effectual means of stopping boys from trespassieg on railways was to bring them up to the Police Court and have them flogged. Ada Catherine Mason, aged three months, was found dead m her bed m I her mother's house at Kaikorai last night, An epileptic fit is the supposed cause of death. An Jnquest has not been deemed necessary. The Morning Herald publishes tomorrow as an evening paper. O'Donnell, the footballer, arrived m town to-night en route for Wellington. The Aorangi, which leaves on Sunday, will take two thousand frozen sheep. The Medical Association have received a reply to the petition for the commulation of the sentence of Dr Parry, convicted of manslaughter at Kaitangata ; the reply is that the Governor sees no sufficient grounds to justify him m complying with the prayer thereof. The Otago Early History Society was finally formed to-night, and a constitution was adopted. Mr James Macandrew was elected president, and Mr D. Hocken vice-president. Ashbwrton, May 16. Mr E. G. Wright, member for Ash burton, has forwarded his resignation to the Speaker, owing to illhealth. Nelson, May 16. The Colonist's correspondent, writing from Collingvvood, stated that that district was on Wednesday visitel by ihe severest wind and rain storm experienced for years past. A large building near the wharf, owned by Mr W. C Reilly, was par drily destroyed. By the destruction of the building and damage occasioned to his stores, Mr Reilly is a considerable loser. Rbeftov, May 16. People here are all considering the possibilities of an early election, 3nd already two candidates arc spokeu of as likely to contest the Inangahua seat. These are Mr William Mclean, of Wellington, and Mr Richard Reeves. The latter announces his intention of contesting the seat against all comers.
