The McDermott Case.

(united press association.) Wellington, May 12. On being called upon to plead, defendant admitted that he had been guilly of peculation. His Worship said the case was one m which accused did not possess his sympathy. The case was a most painful one, and he felt that accused must bo putished to the fullest extent allowed by law. The sentence of the Court would be six months' imprisonment with hard labour.
