MAKING AN EXAMPLE.
At an insolvency examination at Melbourne of Francis Horace Stubley some extraordinary revelations were made. He stated that he had been a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly, and that after failing as a sh'ipbroker he went to the mines, where he worked as practical 1 miner, making -atthe rate of £1500 to £2000 per week he calculated his dividends m eight years at £200,000. Subsequently lie went into squatting, But his. operations were unsuccessful, .as also were his dealiugs as a wheat and wool shipper. He had purchased some thousands sf pounds' worth of jewellery for his wife, including seven or eight diamond rings, a diamond set that coat £200, a sapyhire set worth £150, and a ruby set worth £200. At his primary examination he gave his evidence . m such an unsatisfactory manner that he was committed for a few days for 'contempt. , '
