A RASCALLY ACTION.
The Woodville Examiner tells a very shocking, but very probable story, to which the attention of members of the Legislative is directed ; it reads thus : — " It appears that a certain officer of the Napier Survey Department entered for a certain section, which was bal lotted for with the result that he succeeded m getting it. Two other settlers were jn for it, and one m particular required it badly. He was only a poor man, and, of course was desirous of. getting it at as low a price as possible) But this wouldbe land-shark of the Napier office, finding the position m which the land was placed, would not hand, it over to the bona fide settler unless th& latter gave him a bonus of £20, which he eventually had to do. That was £20 so cruelly and wrongfully abstracted from the pockets of a struggling 'settler to' satisfy the rapacity of a man m a Government sinecure, with a good salary." Is the story true ? If it is true what is the officer's name ?
