At : u - thtf inquest a verdict of accidental '■<'* death was returned with a rider to the effect that the harbor regulation as to lights on gangways was not k properly carried out, and requesting ; the Coroner to represent the necessity for life saving apparatus to be pro- '- vided. Wellington, This Day. : Another fire occurred at 2.30 this morning the house occupied by "W. Preston, wine merchant, and Captain Stecle, of steamer Manawatn, being destroyed. The fire originated m the -house of latter who is away from ;i, Wellington, his wife and four chil- , dren remaining m the residence. How it occurred is" not known, but it is -believed to have started m one of the partitions. Both the houses are the property of George Brown, contraci[ tor. The firemen were delayed. through water not being ttirned dn at the reservoir until 20 minutes after : their arrival at the scene of the bonflagration,
