A Jockey's Grievance.
(united press association.) . Christchtjrcii, May 7. The case of the jockey Derret against Messrs Robinson and Lance, claim for £100 for a retaining fee as jockey, came on again to-day. On the previous occasion plaintiff was non-suited, because Mr Robinson was not joined m the plaint. It will be remembered that the plaintiff was dismissed by defendants on the day lefore the last November (Metropolitan) meeting. The evidence was now repeated. It appeared that the original arrangement - viz., that plaintiff should receive the £100 retaining fee, was made m February, 1880. He had received four of these fees, when he was dismissed without" notice, and after earning m all over £1160 while m defendants' employment. It was also given m evidence i that defendants had insisted on the payment of a bet of £30 (L3OO to £30 Cheviot) which Derret had taken from defendants before plaintiff was allowed to ride at the Auckland races. Ultimately the ea.se went off on another non-suit point, that plaintitF had not proved an engagement m September, 1888, which was the time mentioned m plaint.
