Fletcher, late mine manager at Sandhurst on further charges of embezzlement, was continued to-day, and again resulted m the acquittal of the prisoner. It has transpired that Mr John Pender, M.P., well known m London as the Chairman of the Eastern Telewrap Company and its branches, has recently made inquiries m this city by telegraph regarding the prospects of establishing a bank on the ground hitherto occupied by the Oriental Bank Corporation. Sydney, May 5. The excitement which has been manifested m this city since the news of the failure of the Oriental Bank was received here has now calmed down. The passengers ex the steamship Rome, who liavo been m quarantine since the arrival of of the vessel, were j liberated to-day.
