(united press association.) Wellington, May 5. * A man named Alfred Hawley was found early this morning m the iia.ilway station at Wood.side, Wairurapa, mau unconscious state. On examination it was found that one of his wrists was cut severely, and he was also stabbed m the left side. On regaining consciousness Hawley said he had inflicted the injuries himself with a sheath knife, which was lying by his side. No reason for the act is assigned. Dunedi.v, May 5. The s.s. At the Supreme Court this morning the case of John Burton, charged with burning down a brewery at Hawera, was called ou.and occupied the Supreme Court all day. The jury brought m a verdict of not guilty, and the Court adjourned. Burton will be charged tomorrow with attempt to commit fraud on an insurance company.
