Arrest of Prospectors. (UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, May 5. The Maoris m the Upper Wanganui District have arrested to Europeans named Barry and McDonnell who wore prospecting on Native lands. The prisoners have been sent by the Natives on to Alexandra aud the Hon. Ml' Biyce is considering whether to prosecute them tor unlawfully prospecting. Wangaxui, May 5. Letters from tho prospecting party at present up the Wanganui river state' that they have reached Tiumoara, b=it as yet the country gone through is not of a gold-bearing diameter. They are now m the territory m which the gold is .supposed to bo and they had heard news that Barry, a private prospector, has seat some, gold specimens m v bottle to Mr Biyce. The letter states that he has been arrested and sent to Alexandra.
