An inquest was held today on the body of Edgar King, who was drowned through falling off the railway bridge info the Taieri River. Deceased ■was over 70 years of age. His son, aged 15, was walking m front, -when he heard the splash. Dunedin, May 1. The Takapuna inquiry is concluded. The Court found that the damage was caused off Cape Egnionfc,and hold dptain Jones and the second mate responsible. Greymouth, May 1. Of 75 men employed by the Harbour Board, o"ver 50 have been discharged. Most of the men discharged have families. Some distress is not unlikely to occur during the winter. A preliminary inquiry into the stranding of the Oefci was was held this morning. Tenders have been called for floating the vessel, and one will be accepted this evening. Chhistchtjbch, May 1. The Hon. W. Rolleston on Tuesday afternoon narrowly escaped drowning, when crossing Waiau River, on his way to the Hammer Plains at the hot springs. He was thrown out, and got to the bank with difficulty. MrJMalder, sen., solicitor, at Akaroa, fell dead m the main street at Akaroa to-day. Wellington, This Day.
