At the Police Court yesterday, what the Resident Magistrate termed an extension of the" dummy system was exposed m connection with Eotelkeeping.: Ann. Diamond was charged with selling liquor m the Clarendon Hotel without a license i It was shewn thnt she had recently gone into the Hotel, and that the license was Bt ill held, and bad been since December, ijby one Antony, who stated that he never had any interest m the businesc He was simply the servant of Mr Wilson, the brewer. Mrs Diamond was fined £3, and the Resident Magistrate said he did not thinkjiin the face of 'the conviction, she could get a license. It v probable a charge will also be laitl 'aitjai'Sst WjUon or Antony. In another caso Dtra'iel' Buchanan, of the Bay View Hotel, was fined 40a and his license ordered' to be' endorsed for selling on Sunday. He stated that he was only a landlord on wages. The houce was carried; on for the benefit of Mr Speight, the bewer.
