The Opunake Tragedy.

Opunake, April 8. Au inquest wa3 held to-da/ by Captain Davidson, J.P., coroner, on Louisa , Marian Plumridge and two children, who: died from poison administered by Mrs Plumbrid^e on Sunday evening last. Deceased's brother, George Taylor, statod that deceased was 40 years of age. She had a daughter by her first husband, Captain Higgius, about 14 years of age, living m the King Country. Latterly deceased talked about ixerselC m consequence of love trottbl<^ f uutiTe*' (the brother) thought it was only gammon. The jury, after retiring twice, returned a verdict, "That "deceased—*" ditd through poison administered by her own hands, but the evidence di& not.prove her state i>f min^ "at, \ the poison was taken." Dr Gribbes," who held the post-mortem examination stated, m reply to the jury, that there was little or no restriction on the salo of poison . : tidyddA a signataie . m 'tliefi J poison-book, and a statement as to tho '"" purpose for which the,. poison was to be used. He thought the law very lax m that respect.
