Local Industry.
From tlie Post we learn twelve new composite double-bogie carriages, each 48fo long, are m course of construction, iit the Petonu workshops, Wellington. The carriages aro being* actually made, and not merely erected, at the Petone workshops, everything being done by local wbikmen, and it is estimated that while the first cost will be fully #100. per cu'riage- less than the same stock could be lauded for m Wellington, the vehicles will i-eally be. worth .£IOO apiece more m improved durability, owing to tbe superior character of workmanship as compated with thah of the imported article. This speaka well for " local industry."
