Pigeons promise to be very, plentiful during the next shooting season, and they are to be seen m hundreds along the yarions bush roads. — Mr Bickerton, of Wai awa, is the purchaser of the Abercorn Arms Hotel: "The total price paid will he about £2000, of wlrcn if 1700 will go 10 Dr Todd, who is secured by a bill of sale.— The burniiig season is now well over and generally; it has been far from successful. - >Many of the settlers have had very bad burns, while' as a rule the fires have awept away little more than "the foliage and light branches. — The Setlleis' Association was successfully inaugurated on Saturday night; and it has already begun its work ofj^ood. The officers have been well selected and are men who will devote -the- necessary interest to the work of the Association.— The question of securing the services of a -medic** l man for Wood ville wan introduced at the meeting of the Settlers' Association on Saturday night, but it was considered inadvisable to give any guarantee, the'opinioh expressed being that if a. medical gentleman thought the pjase warranted, his. settling here a guarantee was unnecessary. — The Freethought Association have resolved on procuring a piano for the. purpose of providing music at their Sunday afternoon meetings. ,
