CORRESPONDENCE.
IN EXPLANATION. [TO THE EDI'fOB OF THE STANDARD.] Sir, — In your latft Friday's issue you quote a statement of mine made at the Oroua Council- meeting, to the effect that " I knew of several persons, who had signed the petition for suspension of tbe Counties Act, wishing 1 to have their names 1 .struck otT again." This is quite correct, bub the statement was r not r jmade at the discussion on suspensjon, bijt at that of the Highway Board's request to have Fitzherbert i road tq the Gorge declared a County road, to show that' 'many persons had altered their minds with regard to suspension, and that by the same procedure we might very shortly have the Counties Act m force again. Though appealing 1 m the local column, and separate from your repoit of the meeting, it might be concluded the statement was made m connection with the suspension, and just a slight supposi-' tjqn might arjs.e th.at I was one of those « several persons." I have been questioned on the matter to-day, and will feel obliged if you will make it qlear.-rl am, &o , ; ; Alex, H, Walker, Awapuni, February 13th, 1884.
