[With reference JOjthe above we may stiLe £hat we have just seen Mr Jay, one of the firm of Jay and Hayns, railway contractors at Danevirke, to whom reference ia evidently' intended. He 3tates that on Monday he informed the men that arrangement* were pending with the ißank for the negotiation of further Advances/ out they had not yet been concluded. He says only a fortnight's wages w due, and the Government holds LI 600, the firm's sole liability being about L6OO, Mr Jay i<eceived telegram this morning f yom MrLinton, who is m "Wellington, and •who said he was jiist about to complete arrangements with the bank, 'Mr Hayna "being also down foi* that purpose. He expected another telegram almost immediately conveying 1 the information that financial matters had been satisfactory adjusted The statement that the contractors had levanted is quite incorrect, and is Weber a very cruel falsehood to circulate. Mr Jay admits that a temporary stoppage occurred, but that he thought the men were satisfied .-with his explanation, -""and, were going to leturn 'to ' Work. Othori counsels niust have subsequently "prevaileil, and possibly disturbances may have taken place.] :
