THE BOROUGH LOAN.

We again remind ratepayers of tonight's meeting m connection with the Loan proposals. We trust there will be a full attendance, and that the question will receive full discussion. As we said before we believe the feeling of the public is entirely averse to a small loan. They seem to recognize ihe fact that raising a small loan would be a most unwise step. If the ratepayers reflect for a moment they will see that without a loan the place must remain dormant. A special rate will have to be imposed, m any case ; and m such a case the outlook is not cheering, especially m the face of the winter approaching. Let the ratepayers not be led astray by selfseeking ptisons to commit themselves to a palpable indiscretion. We affirm that adopting a £5000 loan would be impolitic m every sense, and .should not be countenanced under any consideration. •; We trust a soui,d and liberal scheme will be propounded to-night, that will meet with the approval of^the great bulk of the ratepayers, and which the Council can consistently endorse. It" such is done, we may expect a speedy termination to the existing depression,, and; before long.agrtin .toJsee the Borough once more progressive. We earnestly counsel the ratepayers not to be deceived by mislnadiug arguments, but to exorcise their own sound judgment and discrimination, when we have no doubt they will r agree to /a discreet and advantageous course, for which, they will have no reason hereafter to, express regret. .:•....;
