INSULTING THE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Extraordinary Procedure.
The public will learn with extreme surprise, not unmixed with indignation, that the petition for the division of the Borough into wards, which was signed by a certain number- of the ratepayers, has without the knowledge or consent of the Council- -been sent down to Wellington, a local J.P. having undertaken to work the oracle ik this peculiar way. "V^e venture .to say^uch a proceeding is without precedent. The ratepayers will naturally resent the manner m which the Municipal body has been ignored and treated with such studied contempt m this nvitter. But who is the J.l*. who bas jthuC'-X&st aside the ordinary.., rule aud". courtesy customary under; such circumstances, and whose action lias been characterized by su^h an entire absence of good seuse and proper feeling. We fear the ratcpavefswho have thus indiscreetly acted, will make. the discovery thai they have entirely stultified the object they had m view by the extraordinary course they have seen fit to adopt.
