THE HARVEST IN CANTERBURY.
— :oo: — The following is an extract from the Grain Company's report: — "We had hoped m this issue to have been sible to speak more favourably of recent weather than we had occasion to do m, our last, but we are compelled to record' that December has also been characterised by a- succession of singularly bleak, stormy, and wet days, M'ith here and there one or two really fine days inter- j vening. ' The new year is opening wiih ' a promise of fine weather, and although our harvest must inevitably be very late, a few weeks' sunshine and a higher range of temperature than the summer ; has yet shown would make a wonderful change for the better m the appearance of everything ; m some districts the continued cold and wet have undoubtedly done irreparable damage, but m many others the crops are looking so well m spite of their being retarded m their ripening, that, with fine weather dining January and February we see no special reason to despair of at least an average crop. ?> ,
