Stevens and Gorton report :- At oui j sale, held at Pal mers,ton there were : ; about 443 head of cattlo and 400 sheep yarded. The attendance was large, but the bidding- -decidedly dull, there being but few lots sold under the hammer; However, a number were quitted after j the sale. There appeal's to be perfect stagnation m the cattle market, and no immediate prospect of prices improving. Store sheep are m fair demand, but fat wetherfi, are not easily quitted at the prices fixed by vendors, which are usually from Is 6d to 2s 6il per head more than buyers are willing to give. We liad a large number of horses entered, some of which were good draughts, and a few sold at fair values. The lots sold realized the following pricea: — . Cattle.— Yearling steers, £1 15s; milch cows, from £2 to £5; yeai'ling heifeis, none quitted; 3 year-old; steers, £$ 173 6d to £4 9s; beef, £4 to £6 10s for light cattlo. Sheep. — Ewes and lambs at per head all l round 6s 4d, which was good value ; fat sheep, m wool, from 12s 9d to 13s 6d; shorn, from 8s 6d to lls. ; ,HoRSES.-^-piaughts, itova sjglO: to £21 ; hacks, 'from 10s to £11 10s.
