(BT TELKOKAPHy ' (united prkss association.) Wanganui, Jan. 12. At the sitting of the Police Court this morning, a settler named Thomas Hollywood, was fined £10 for cruelly illtreating * horse by over riding. The evidence went to show that the defendant wag drunk and rode the horse (an old racer nAmed Astronomer) toßiich an extent thatit fell down m the road from pure exhaustion; The lega were of the size of a miin's thigh and one back tendon burst right through. The sides of the poor brute were lacerated with the spurs, the man was seen hitting him over the head with a riding whip to make him go when he could hardly move.
