BACHELORS BEWARE.
Actions for breach of promise to marry are on the increase m England, and are rather encouraged by the juries, >vhich m most enses decide against the defendant -if he is a man. U is only when the plaintiff has on a former occa-ion received pecuniary damages for blighted hopes that the jury assumes the damsel to be of the speculative sort and refuses to mulct the defendant. It is now an exceptionally fortunate man who escapes with paying a round sim when he is believed to have trifled with the affections of an unsophisticated and confiding girl. As a consequence there are many women who make it their business to entrap every young man into promises, not so much because they want husbands, but that they miiy realise a sum of money m ca»e the victim backs out and does nob come to time with his ring and license.
