A WARNING.

♦ The Cape Overdone. Meohanks Destitute. According to the statement of a man, sentenced at the Wellington Resident Magistrate's Court to a month's imprisonment for stowing himself on board the British King, things at the Cape do not wear $ satisfactory aspect. Hundreds of i#en are out of emDloyment, and every effort is made by the persons' in distress to clear out of the colony. In consequence of the scarcity of work many families have been reduced to the verge of starvation; and the greatest distress prevails amongst the lower class. The accused, a mechanic named Casey, regretted that he and others had been obliged to secrete themselves on board the steamer, bat expressed, his opinion that {he arrival pf go many artisans m the colony would be beneficial to the community. Captain Kelly stated that prior to the departuvo of the vessel from the Cape, on the 28th of last month, he was informed that there would probably be a number of stowaways on board and m consequence of this information he issued instructions that the .•'hip ohould be thoroughly searched. This was done, and no fewer than ten men secreted m different parts of the vessel. No more could be discovered at that time, but on the followiug morning it was reported to him that 13 more had come to light. Masters of vessels touching at Capetown were caused much annoyance and inconvenience by the endeavours of people to s.tow away for other port*, and if a good senteuce were impose' l on the present offenders he would post a notice of the fact m Capetown so that it might act as a deterrent.
