The rebels laid seige to Muscat, the capital, and camped m great, force round the city. Toe (Saltan) has appealed to the commander 01 H.M.S. Philomel, 3 guns, for assistance which has been granted, and according to latest acoants that ship is engaged spelling the positions ojcupied by besiegers ne*r Muscat. . Loft don, November 1. Further intelligence is to hand-re-garding the disaster m Si?. George's Channel, and the report that 6:) persons have been drowned has proved incorrect. It has now been ascertained that the calamity was occasioned by the collision between the mail packet Holyhead, running between Holyhead and Dublin, and the steamer Alhambra. Both vessels were severely injured, and sank shortly after the collision. The majority o f the passengers and crew weresavea by the vessels' boats, but fifteen persons were drowned. The explosion which occurred on the underground railway is believed to have been caused by dynamite at the hands of jTenian emissaries. The metropolitan stations are now guarded by strong bodies of police, and the approaches to the tunnels are watched. The affair has caused considerablev alarm m the metropolis. '..... , Paeis, October 31. The debate on the Eastern policy of the Government has been resumed m the Chamber of Deputies to-day. In the course of a speech on the position of affairs ia Tonquin, M. Jerry averred that there was no expectation of a war with China, neither France nor that country being desirous of an appeal to arms. A vote of confidence m the Government was, .at the close of the debate, carried by a substantial majority.
