Christohuroh, October 23. : The New, Zealand Shipping Company has received a telegram from Mr Coster, advising that all the additional capital has been taken up m England,' the capital subscribed heing now L4i)o,oo(>. The company has made a further contract with Messrs Elder and Co., for the construction of two steamships, to be delivered next year. Each of these will have, a gross register ot over 5000 tons. The Tongariro leaves London for Port Chalmers and Lyttelton on the 27th instant.

A 'Norwegian vessel was sunk m the English channel, oh 18th September, by collision, and 12 persons were drowned. TheJßnglish barque Britannia was wrecked on the Nova Scotia coast oh 17tb September. Captain Alfred Gasston arrived at Halifax two days after, and told a f earf ultale of suffering. The crew took a small rafr, on which they hardly got a: footing when a heavy sea washed off all but the captain and eight men. Only four survivors were rescued by a boat from the shore, and 14 perished including the wife and children of Captain Gasston.
