The agitation ma^e by the A:cklan«l press, m connection with the. composition of the present Cabinet appears t > have had effect. It is now stated that w'th a view of securing ebuiibrium of local representation, one of the following alternative courses will be adopted to give Auckland a voice m the' Ministry, namely, that either an Auckland Legislative Councillor will be appoint ~d Minister without portfolio — m fjet succeeding to the position occupied m the Whitaker Mini - try by Mr O !iver ; or else a new Auckland member of the Legislative Council will be appointed with the object of his holding such position; or thirdly, that Mr Walter Johnston'b place on > his retirement m a few months will be filled by an Auckland member.
