j Wellington Paper J Our cable message conveys news : ot another shipping disaster m which New Zealanders are unfortunately interested, the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co.'s well-known clipper St, Leonards, which has paid a number of visits to Welling* ton, where her fine appearance always comanded attention, having collided m the English Channel with a vessel called the Cormorant the day after leaving port for Lytteltoa. She is said to have had a nunber of immigrants aboard, but these, as well as the crew, were saved, though no one appareat'y .68- j caped with anything more that the clothes he wore. Though we have received three messages on the subject, there is an entire absence of details. It is understood before leaving Wellington during last wool season that Captain Tod had stated thafc he did not intend to come out m her the next voyage, but it is, of course, quite impossible to say at present whether he was m command or not. Nor is anything known regaiding insurances. New Zailandhas been m (or a full share of looses by disasters of this kind m the Channel, and the question is naturally suggested whether a more efficient meeus for giving w »rnin* during thiok weather should n*u be devised.
