City New York with the homeward mails, dated Auckland, August 14th, arrived yesterday. Paris, September 8. Further diplomatic parleying has taken place between the Marquis Tseng and C. Lacour, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, regarding the Franco« Chinese difficulty m Tonquin. The Chinese Ambassador has drawn np a series of proposals for the settlement of the ques* tion and has submitted them for the decision of the French Government, Cabinet meeting is to be held on Monday next, 10th instant, to discuss the matter. London, September 8. The catalogue to-day at the wool sale comprised 1400 bales. The market is dull. ! The Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone is cruising on the Scotch coast, and is not expected to return to London for gome time.
