Typhoid Fever.

Typhoid fever is prevalent m several districts ot Otago just now. Mr James Rivers, for a great many years resident m Alexandria South, m a letter to the Dunstan Tinpes attributed the present, prevalence of typhoid fever to the pollu tion of both the water and the air by the millions of carcases of deid rabbits that cover the ranges on every hand. He urges that an analysis of the water should be made by a competent person, to test the question. It is a well- known fact that a rabbit after taking poisoned grain makes for the nearest water. There is therefore a lot of truth m his remarks. Prom the Ernscleugh ran, adjoining Alexandria, over 100,000 rabbit skins were taken last year, and this is anything but a large run. He concludes his letter as follows : — " Wh it brought into the district the myriads of green flies that have taken the place of the common house fly ? '
