Social Meeting.

The annual congregational and social meeting m connection with the Pal-^ dierston Presbyterian Church was held m the Foresters' Hall last evening. About 200 people sat down at the tables to tea at half-past five o'clock ; j the trays being given by Mesdames Wrietht, Ohisholm, Oaverhill, Fergus n, and Colville, and we ned. scarcely add that there was a liberal display of cakes, Tandwicnesj* &c. After* fhe good things had been disposed of, and the tables clflared,jhe chair was taken by the' rtev. 1/Lt Wright, , "who "congratulated tb>' congregation on the success of the gathering, and urged on those present the necessity' of aiding m the great Christian work. He added chat it was noi intended on this occasion to furnish a congregational report, but' the audience would have the pleasure .of listening to a musical treaffrqm several, of heir friends from Awahuri, wKe had kii dly valunteered their services. The Mi ises Macdonald executed with taste anil expression on the piano a piece entitled " Silver Bells,'' and were followed m succession by Miss Young, Miss Little, and other ladies and gentlemen, who rendered duetts, solos, and choruses m a manner which elicited plaudits" from the audience. The Revs. Dobll and Patterson during the course of ihe evening delivered short addresses to the assemblage, the'latter gentleman ma ting reference to;th& work being done at 1 1v'ollington by. the Salvation Army.
