Cigarette Smoking.
Sir Henry Thompson has written a letter to the Lancet about cigarette smoking. fl e poinrg 00t that iQ the r-aso a cigarette without;- a mouthpiece is rarely smoked more than ,half-w_y through, and thus very little of the offensive oil of the tobacao reaches the smoker's mouth. Here, where tobacco is dear, he suggests that a "holder should alwars be used; aud he says ihat he himself invented one^ whicU opened traatversely m tha middle, disclosing a small cavity which is filled with cotron wojl to catch the oil. || Smoked simply," Sir Henry continues, "and with cotton wool interposed, I do not hesitate to regard the cigarette as the least potent, and therefore the least injurious, form of smokiu? tobacco."
