Certain amendments were required io committee. Mr J. Buchanan defended the East Coast Land Settlement Company, and Mr DeLautour from charges made against them, and into which he wanted the fullest enquiries. He would support the Bill generally, but not the extension of lawyers. Mr Turnbull supported the return to the right preemption. Mr Sheehan intimated his intention of speaking at length m opposition to the Bill, on the motion for its com-* mittal, Mr Bryce replied at considerable length intimating that he could not ag cc to any clause which would validate a protest existing m the complete regulations of the Bill.
