Mr Dodson would like to see the matter settled by previous question at 12.45. A Division took place as to whether Holmes' amendment or- Montgomery's should ba added to the preamble previously agreed to. The former was carried by 43 to 23. Major Atkinson usked loave to withdraw the preamblabut Sir G, Grey ob» jectinsr, it could not be done. On the motion as amended being put Mr Smith moved that tbq previous question be negatived on the voices. Mr Fish strongly urged Mr Dargarille to say that he did not intead to impute personal dishonour to the Treasurer. In a similar oase m 1878, -ir G. Grey had given such an assurance, and Major Atkinson then accepted it is he woqlcl no dpi^ht do now, if given the opportunity. He appealed to Mr Dargaville most earnestly to give this assurance, Mr Dargatille did not rise, and the motion, as amended, was carried on the voices. ££The House rose at 1.20.
